wow. im pretty speechless. i really didnt think he could look any more idiotic but of course he has to go above and beyond once again and blow away my expectations... especially now that he's decided to keep the no child left behind grant the way it is and continue the funding. that is one of the most important grants he has been involved with and yet he can't seem to understand why so many school districts are trying to get rid of it or fight it. if his philosophy is all about the individual's voice, why does he continue to not listen to anyone?
I wouldn't say it was a bad speech but very mediocre. The first half was a lot more interesting than the second half. Also is $30 billion for AIDS a little excessive. I'm all for stopping aids but with all the private funding Aids research is getting why that much money.
I think his stimulus package is a joke. It is a short term fix for the economy that will maybe help him leave office on a semi good note. The package may help the economy for a short while, but ultimately the economy will be bad again. The package leaves our next president with an even bigger issue on his/her hands. Bush needs to stop thinking of his own legacy and needs to do what is best for the country. The economy needs some short term fix to give Americans hope, but mostly a long term fix so that the economy will be, and stay strong for years to come.
right before class started today, i was saying to someone how i agreed with pretty much everything Bush said, and that person said how some of his policies seemed very unrealistic and bogus... i couldn't really understand why, but... i'm thinking that i'm pretty much an uneducated/ignorant student who's agreeing with everything Bush is saying? but... i think one of the policies that stood out for me was his foreign policy about helping the AIDS treatment/prevention? in Africa. =)
i thought this was by far his best one out of his four state of the unions, and i think it had to do with the fact that he has comes to terms with the fact that he is a lame duck president now. before in his other ones, he had the backing of congress and whatnot, and he took on far out issues (Iraq, the Axis of Evil, Iran), but this time he was much more domesticly oriented. obviously hes going to get a lot of heat for what he is pushing for with the economic stimulus plan, but the fact that he recognizes the the urgency of the economy was something i really liked.
