I think that Colbert's candidacy is being taken too seriously and that if he meant it as a joke, there shouldn't be any ramifications for him or his sponsor. The article mentioned Doritos getting in some sort of legal trouble for backing a "candidate", if he becomes one, which is ridiculous, because if the federal government knows it's a joke, why would they impose such a punishment on him or his sponsor? Also, if it is known by everyone that his running is a joke, why would he become an actual candidate?

As much as I love Stephen Colbert and the Colbert Show, the idea of him being president is almost scary. Yes, entertainers have made good politicians, such as Arnold Schwartzennager, Ronald Reagan, and now potentially Fred Tompson, however, this is one case where I don't think it seriously applies. Besides, this has started in jest with all the 1000 candidates stepping up for the presidential race, to take this a step further is just ruining the joke. So what Stephen Colbert should really do is request that Americans stop ruining his joke.

i think that the idea is a joke although people like mis B. take politics really seriously and don't understand those kinds of jokes because they follow so closely and if something changes in presents and its because of him then they might get offended and as far as the government is concerned. i think they need to get a life and take the joke and i see that they might be mad but they need to back off.

I think what Colbert did was needed in this election. So far this race has been very boring and a little comic releif was a good thing for everyone. Colbert would have pulled out eventually anyway. I just think this race needed a little something interesting and Colbert helped bring that.

I think Colbert's candidacy is quite humerous. He will steal many votes and turn the polls a little bit. Although he may not win he's going to make this elections a little more interesting. I feel some people dont take him serious enough because of his show and if he wants to take more votes from this election he needs to find a way to be more serious.
