Do We Need Law and Order?

Fred Thompson has thrown his hat into the presidential race. What are your thoughts?

He's going to need a lot more campaigning. The only ones familiar with him so far are Law and Order viewers, only knowing him by the character he plays on a TV show. He'll need to work hard to familiarize himself among the greater, non-Law and Order-watching crowds of America...

I just think it's odd he's running so late. I know everybody started early and because of that, you'd think he'd start something earlier in the race. Since he is running later than everybody else, I'd expect some massive campaign and I'm not too sure what this actor/politician wants to do. He must have some reasoning for coming in so late, maybe some tricks up his sleeve?

I believe he is running a little late. He will have to pull some major campaigning to catch up with everyone else. Some people might just see him as an actor. But some people might see him more than that like Arnold Schwartzanager. However, Arnold Schawrtzanager started campaigning ealier and didnt come into the race late.

I read something about his wife being 25 years younger than him and has kids younger than his grandchildren from his first marriage. Of course he claims to be conservative and righteous. Typical Republican BS.

His politics are so conservative, I think he might reinstate slavery.

His best chance to get votes is to say absolutely nothing of substance and rely on his fame.

I think at this point in the race, everyone is capable of winning. It depends on the amounts of campaigning that each candidate does, and if any scandals/ revelations come out before primaries. Fred Thompson has a good chance of winning because of his supporters from his career. It will be interesting to se how Hollywood votes when one of theirs is running in this elecion.

I think that Republicans are putting much of their hope on Fred Thompson's candidacy. He fits the mold of the ideal conservative and his fame will definitely play a part in his success. It seemed to work with Reagan and Arnold in their campaigns. Other than Thompson, it doesn't seem that the Republicans have any candidates that could go up against the Democratic heavy hitters like Barack Obama or Hilary Clinton.

Well, if Reagan can do it, I guess he can do. To draw parallels with Schwazenegger are a little extreme because that was just a California election, but its possible that an actor could do it. His late jump into the race is just the drama you should expect if an actor is involved. I think we'd all need to know a little more about his track record in politics than his character on "Law and Order".

Just because a guy can act as someone who understands the law, does not mean that he actually does. Nor does it make him qualified for presidency. However, like many have posted before, its pretty much a toss up at this point for the presidency. And people can't really argue that he shouldn't be because of his acting because of the whole Ronald Reagan thing. I personally believe there are many more qualified candidates in the running currently and we don't really need Fred Tompson in the race. With a late entry, and few people's knowledge of his actual stances on issues, I don't see him making it past the primaries.

I think this is a pretty funny topic. I think that it is a little odd that he entered so late, and I think that his background is interesting. My dentist said he really supports this candidate because he says that its great to have a candidate who "doesn't have a lot of baggage" which i found pretty funny because all we really know about him is that he was an actor and not much about his political record. I think that this is going to be very interesting, but i do not think that he will win in the primaries.
