Hi! This election is so interesting. I have a feeling that Indiana is going to be the next Ohio. If McCain loses Indiana, I think he has no hope. I am very excited to know the results. See you guys all tomorrow!
Obama - 3 out of 4 of Maine's votes (we don't know where the 4th will go yet - remember they can split) Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, DC, Maryland, Delaware, Illinois
Oh man this is so close, I can't wait to see Florida, Ohio, and Indiana those are the 3 that I think will decide the election no matter what I think it is coming down to those 3 states
Wow, okay. So, Obama (77) just won Maine, Mass., Conn., New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Illinois (surprise there..) And McCain (34) won Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Exciting! Also Democrats dominating in the House and Senate.
electoral-vote.com has Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida as going to Obama while Virginia and Indiana are for McCain. ..but I guess this is just based on the counties that came in first
Pennsylvania is Obama's, which really isn't that big of a surprise, but I was watching CNN and an analyst was talking about how this state was the "upset" McCain was looking for. But Obama took over 60% of the popular vote, which basically means the McCain campaign is at the "all hope gone" stage. It looks like Florida is going towards Obama as well. I was talking to Larsen, and he said it's gonna be 350+ for Obama. I think it'll be quite a bit over that.
On top of that, Senate reached a Democratic majority. It's a good year for Democrats.
My first comment is: I wonder if this election will end up as a reverse of the Bush/Gore election in 2000; where Obama wins the electoral vote but McCain wins the popular vote. Right now, Obama has 12, 506, 490 popular votes (50 %) and McCain has 12, 407, 335 popular votes (49%), which is EXTREMELY close. However, Obama has 174 electoral votes and McCain only has 64...a remarkably huge contrast to and reflection of the nation's actual votes. I think this will lead to recounts in some of the swing states, such as Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
"The Senate races are in the Democrat's favor. The Democrats have picked up seats in North Carolina (Elizabeth Dole lost), New Mexico, Virginia, and New Hampshire. The Republicans got lucky in Kentucky though."
I am really surprised that McCain lost Pennsylvania badly (66 to 34) and lost Ohio because of how much time and money he spent in both places. It is also interesting that McCain is currently losing the popular vote 49 to 50% but is losing the electoral vote by much more: 199 to 124. It seems impossible to win now since California, Oregon, Hawaii, and Washington haven't been counted yet, and they are for sure democrat.
CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX...I'm switching off a lot. There's a lot of monotnous speakers and commercials. haha
Wow, Ohio is Obama's. That's huge. One of the news stations I'm watching said that no Republican has ever won the presidency without Ohio. Grant Park must be going crazzzzy right now.
This is looking good!! Long day.. where i was working as an election judge though it was very obama mccain close.. weird being in illinois. but this area is very republican.
Alexa--where were you working? because i feel like this area is so heavily democrat (like illinois in general) ...even our class had 17 obama supporters vs. 7 mccain supporters. and did you get to look at all of them? are they tallied as people vote or after voting closed?
It's interesting to see the predictions for the number of electoral votes each canidate has as of now. CNN says taht Obama has 199 and McCain has 78 and on TV abc says that Obama has 200 and McCain has 128. Also, Dole LOST the senate race in NC... I remember how we talked about Bob Dole in class, and I thought I should bring it up.
Oh my gosh this election is so amazing. It looks like its going to be a democratic win. According to the map I’m following Obama is wining with 200 electoral votes and if he wins California, Oregon and Washington state then he has over 270 already even if he loses everything else. I am enjoying watching this so much. Also Bouch you better get money for donuts because Florida is highly leaning Obama!
At my polling place, which served Ela precints 86, 87, and 454, we had two write in votes; Hillary Clinton and Jesus of Nazareth, which obviously didn't count. Overall, they went to McCain. We had a steady trickle all day. The only time there was a line was when we opened at 6. I got asked all the questions about the Illinois constitution party, the Constitution thingy, and I knew all the answers from this class!
I am watching ABC and it is reall interesting to listen to the ideas about how much of a change this election could potentially be. Also in terms of a change, I was an election judge today and an African American woman walked in with her 7 kids and she told us that they all wanted to come with her to be a part of a historic election and I thought that was so cool because none of these kids could have been older than 10 and they wanted to help mom because they actually knew about the election, I talked to them for a little
I was very happy that I predicted that Obama will win PA and OH. I was shocked that there was only 30% turnout in Ohio. As well, I didn't expect McCain to be on the verge on winning Virgina while Obama winning NC. If it was just majority vote for the whole country, the race would have been closer than it seems.
I absolutely loved election judging today guys! More of us should have done it, it was such a great experience! I expect a lot more people but by the end of the day we were at about 1,300 voters in my location, which was still awesome because some of the more experienced election judges (a.k.a. elderly folk that are now my friends because they were super awesome =D ) told me that our morning rush was bigger than many elections they've judged in in the past years! So although I expected a crazy huge turnout, this was still great!
Oh my! Obama just got Ohio! and it was like 47% of the working class. I was so worried that the Bradley effect would take place. 207 vs. 129. so exciting!
I'm not going to lie. Despite what the media and some people have been saying; McCain winning would be a longshot. It could have been possible if he had won all of the swing states, or in certain played out situations. But now that Obama has won Ohio, I think 'so goes the nation' applies and nothing much more exciting will happen tonight. California(55), Oregon(7) and Washington(11) are all very strong Obama in the recent polls. As of right now, Obama stands at 200.. you do the math.
i'm watching channel 2...and i kind of have a problem with the whole "african american males can do anything now!" they could do anything before (granted once equal rights were enforced, etc.)...this election is just a demonstration of that. i don't care what skin color you are, i care what you stand for. i think a lot of people are siding on race for all the wrong reasons. it probably doesn't make much of a difference for african americans since they're heavily liberal anyway, but if there was a republican black candidate, based on what I saw from Howard University I have a feeling that they would vote for the black candidate regardless of his party. And for those who may misread this comment, I am in absolutely no way racist, but I am certainly against reverse discrimination the same as I am against discrimination. I think it's equally wrong for uninformed white people to vote for mccain just because they won't vote for Obama for racial reasons. I know this is unlikely, if not impossible, but it would be ideal if race was not considered as a factor when people determine their vote.
Barack Obama has now won Ohio and Pennsylvania-- the legend that Ohio is the deciding state is probably true-- and McCain is basically only still strong in the South. Obama has already won 207 electoral votes with McCain only with 135. McCain is still struggling with his home state of Arizona. This election does not seem that close. Obama has basically won!
also from channel 2...obama spent ONE BILLION DOLLARS in his campaign...dear lord...suddenly makes palin's $150,000 shopping spree seem like a trip to walmart...
Love CNN - they have a guy as a hologram right now. Also John King's awesome 3D Congress model. Would make a great prop for class - you think he would let us borrow it?
Haha yeah have to say that the hologram of Wil.I.Am was borderline weird but almost cool too, it reminds me of those movies where hologram teachers teach the classes (zenon: girl of the 21st century =) ) don't even act like you all don't remember that one! It's a Disney classic =)
i was an election judge in lake forest and you could definitely see a mcCain preference because of the lower taxes they would pay under his administration. there was also a very low voter turnout (less then 1000) possibly because the majority of people in the area were McCain supporters and they didnt feel the need to come out since Obama was projected to win illinois anyways.
its also interesting that Obama won the presidency without the votes from california.

and:
Electoral-vote.com had projected a win for Obama in Virginia, but now it looks like McCain could take it. This is going to be an interesting night!
Oh man this is so close, I can't wait to see Florida, Ohio, and Indiana those are the 3 that I think will decide the election no matter what I think it is coming down to those 3 states

Indiana - college towns are going towards Obama
if Florida goes to obombo
i'm throwing up the white flag
oh man Virginia looks like it is going McCain

most of the counties left in florida are very conservative.... so who knows if they will change things
as for Florida - yes, the panhandle is very conservative - military bases, etc.
I still say donuts for Florida, there are so many big demo. counties
New Hampshire for Obama
why does Rhode Island go so late they are surrounded by states that are already done.
So does Obama have 3 votes from Maine?
Yes, Obama has 3 out of 4 votes in Maine. We don't know about 1 vote.
Texas is close, wow thats a major shock
Pennsylvania for Obama
from Bangor, Maine's newspaper re: their electoral college splitting: http://bangornews.com/detail/91960.html
electoral-vote.com has Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida as going to Obama while Virginia and Indiana are for McCain.
..but I guess this is just based on the counties that came in first
Texas is a 3% difference. Someone want to explain this please, I think we are in the twilight zone.
Key Senate race - Kay Hagan defeats Elizabeth Dole (Bob Dole's wife) in NC
McCain gets Alabama
so I'm comparing electoral-vote and cnn.com's map and they are completely different and i was wondering if electoral-vote.com is more right winged?
Obama - New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Rhode Island
McCain - Wyoming, North Dakota
electoral-vote is leaving a lot blank at this point - waiting for more info I think.....
SENATE MAJORITY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elissa - Read the commentary further down the page on electoral-vote.com - it explains the new map!
From Lindsey:
Why is Texas so close? I thought it was a sure bet for McCain. And how come Ohio and Indiana are taking so long?!?
McCain gets Georgia

I just saw something interesting on ABC. Families with an income of $200,000 or more - 53% have voted for Obama! That's weird..
From Melissa:
