I personally believe that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment. It supports the 'eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth' mentality, which I do not support. I do understand that families of victims want justice to be served for the criminal, but given the methods of being put to death I still do not believe that this is the best way to handle these situations.
I also believe that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment, not to mention hypocritical. If we are sending someone to jail for murder, why is it justifiable to kill that person for killing someone else? I don't think there is a point being made by the death penalty except killing just results in more killing, and wasn't the whole point in the first place to prevent anymore killings to happen?
Well I am the weird person right now. Since I do support the death penalty. I do not think its cruel and unusual punishment since, it clears up the prisons, and also the people that are put to death, deserve to be put to death since they did something that the judge found so bad that only taking their life is punishment enough. The federal, and most states death penalty of lethal injection I think is no where near cruel or unusual since it is quick and painless.
I personally also support the dealth penalty. I believe in justice being served, and it's not as though we are putting people to death for petty things such as stealing. If a judge votes it's OK, then it must be since the judiciary must constantly consent the constitution. If it does not fall under the 8th amendment as "cruel and unusual" then it is not.
